Final Update

August 30, 2009

Auction Night 2008 was a great event. The blog was fun to do but now it’s time to move on. The school has adopted a different fund raising event and my focus is now on redesigning and managing the primary school website. Thanks to everyone who’s supported the event and the blog. It’s been fun.

At the request of participants and to protect the privacy of parents, the photos from the event have been archived and removed from public access.

What an Event!

February 10, 2008

It was an awesome evening out at Auction Night 2008 – Strawberry Night Fever. As we left the sitter and approached Mill Valley Community Center we spotted the lights emanating from the parking lot, directing us to our big event. It was amazing to see so many people decked out in full seventies dress. Everyone looked fabulous! From sexy short dresses and long go-go boots to groovy tie dye shirts and way out hair. There were peace signs and disco balls adorning our party goers and smiles everywhere. You had to wonder how seventies fashion went out of style when everyone looked this good!

Letter from Leslie Thornton

February 3, 2008

Dear Families,

Our Strawberry Night Fever Auction Night is only six days away now. So many have worked so hard to create this wonderful event. Thank you all so much for the amazing auction items that have been donated. This will be a wonderful event, whether you are interested in meeting new people and getting to know staff members, enjoying great music, meeting Rita Abrams and alumni, dancing, or seeing and bidding on auction items. Some items will be in a “Buy it now” category, so plan on coming early in the evening.

If you have never attended before, you should know that some will come in 70’s attire, but many will not, and all are welcome! Having RSVP’s by Wednesday will help us get an accurate count for food ordering. Auction items include opportunities to spend time with teachers and staff members, vacation opportunities, and everything in between. It is an amazing offering. Profits from this evening will make a big difference in each child’s school experience, funding hands on science in our wetlands, technology, adding to our kindergarten playground, an expanded homework club, and more.

To involve the students, Friday will be a Disco Day as well. Students are encouraged to dress up, and we will have disco music at lunch for our weekly dance party. Students will all be given Disco Ball necklaces this week to wear on Friday.

Friday morning will be an opportunity to come to coffee, preview auction items, and attend my monthly chat right after drop off in the multi-purpose room.

I hope to see all of you on Friday morning and Saturday night. Thank you so much for all you do for our students and school.

Strawberry Point from the Air

February 2, 2008

This photo was uncovered in the school library and unfortunately didn’t have any documentation attached to it. It could be from the 50’s, 60’s, or even 70’s from the styling of the cars. Check out the parking lot and absence of the play structure and additional buildings that currently house the library and EDS.

Super Strawberries

January 27, 2008

Who are the mysterious students in this photo? Originally called the Wild Strawberries they are subsequently renamed Mr. Kline’s Super Strawberries. Were they wild or super? More importantly, who was Mr. Kline? Will an informed alumnus or faculty member please step forward and explain who these people were and why they had their own group photo? Inquiring minds want to know.

Please check out more of these Super Wild Strawberries on the Super Strawberries Page.

Staff Photos Page

January 20, 2008

A new Staff Photos Page has been added to the Alumni Section to compliment the Class Photos Page. We realize this photo below is actually from the 60’s but we were unable to locate the 1969-70 staff photo which would also include Rita Abrams. If you have the 1969-70 staff photo or photos from any of the other missing years please contact Michael ( @ for inclusion on this blog. We’ll be very grateful. Thanks!
