Time Magazine’s “Person of the Year”

January 24, 2008

Time’s Person of the Year is bestowed by the editors of Time Magazine on the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year. Time officially changed the title from Man of the Year to Person of the Year in 1999. Up to that point, the only women to win that recognition were: Wallis Simpson in 1936, Soong Mei-ling (Madame Chiang Kai-Shek) in 1937, Queen Elizabeth II in 1952, and Corazon Aquino in 1986. Women had also been included in several groups, namely Hungarian Freedom Fighter in 1956, U.S. scientists in 1960, Twenty-Five and Under in 1966, The Middle Americans in 1969, and American Women in 1974. Continue and read on about the “Men of the Year” from the 70’s.
